“The Great Sea Battle at Port Arthur” (Ryojun daikaisen). A searchlight pierces the night sky as we see a Russian ship under attack by Japanese forces. Smaller boats like the one shown speeding stealthily in the foreground seem to have defeated the larger ship. Kiyochika’s treatment of the waves and sky are beautiful.
