Title: Moon Seen Beyond at Shinagawa.
Series: One Hundred Views of Musashi Province (Musashi hyakkei no uchi)
Date: 1884/11 (Meiji 17)

A full moon rises above Shinagawa, as seen through a gauzy mosquito net set up for sleeping. Henry Smith considers this one of the best of all of Kiyochika’s landscape prints and notes that “The rendering of the netting itself is remarkable for a kind of realism that would have been impossible for Hiroshige”. With extensive mica applied throughout.

Condition: Excellent impression, color and condition. Note that the small, round unprinted area in the red portion of the netting is found on all impressions of this work, and is thus an incongruency in the block from the time of printing.
