This work was chosen for the cover of the 1988 Smith monograph on Kiyochika. The gas lantern backlights a pine tree at left, and the silhouette of a jinriksha man is seen on the right. The water reflects mostly manmade lights against the backdrop of Mt. Fuji seen against a darkening sky. There is a large cloud to the right of Mt. Fuji that looms “Like a celestial iceberg” (Smith).
