Kiyochika: View Inside Ueno Park (Ueno Kôen-nai no kei) (Sold)
Artist: Kobayashi Kiyochika
Title: View Inside Ueno Park (Ueno Kôen-nai no kei)
Date: 1879
A woman holding a western-style umbrella and a little girl move towards the entrance to Kan-eiji Temple, which was destroyed in the Battle of Ueno in 1868 as Kiyochika looked on, but rebuilt in 1871. The trees are beautifully abstracted and appear to be moving slightly in the breeze. One gets the feeling of isolation and neglect that a visitor at the time must have felt.
