The last battle between the Minamoto Clan and the Taira Clan at Dan-no-ura in Nagato (present Yamaguchi Pref.) is dramatically depicted. Protagonists are Taira-no-Noritsune (1160-85), Lord of Noto Province, in the center sheet. He flies in the air, chasing Minamoto-no-Yoshitsune, Lord of Iyo Province, on the right sheet. At this battle Noritsune fails to defeat Yoshitsune and jumps into the water to die. The text on the left top explains that Emperor Antoku,, grandson of Taira-no-Kiyomori, was 8 years old at the time and at this battle also jumps into the water with Taira-no-Tokiko, his grandmother, who takes the symbols of the emperor with her into the water. Iemura, Lord of Aki Province on the left sheet (top at the head of the boat) is very strong and fights with Noritsune. The battle took place on April 24, 1185 and the Taira Clan was defeated.
