Prince Morinaga (Moriyoshi) is shown in his cave prison, calmly reading Buddhist sutras by lamplight, his single attendant seated nearby. A fierce samurai who intends him harm stands at left, with a focused expression on his face as he watches Morinaga. Prince Morinaga was the son of the rebel emperor Go-Daigo in the 14th century. His story is recounted in the Taheiki, the Tales of the Great Pacification. The cartouche at left is in the shape of a chrysanthemum, a symbol of the Imperial family.

Condition: Excellent impression, color and condition. With mica embellishments on the surrounding rocks.
