Koson 小原古邨 : Silhouetted Bird in Rain above Pink Begonia Flowers

The silhouette of a bird is glimpsed flying in the background, our focus on the bright pink Begonia evansiana plant that is shown in the foreground.  This print was published by Nishinomiya; in the Newland catalog raisonné on this artist they misidentify this as an Adachi reprint, when the publisher is clearly Nishinomiya Yosaku, as seen by the seal on the left margin. Nishinomiya Yosaku was the son of the publisher Hasegawa, and the name was used beginning in the 1930s; Merritt noted that this publisher was active early in the century until after WWII.
