Kasamatsu Shirō 紫浪: Ueno Park and Shinobazu Pond (Sold)
Artist: Kasamatsu Shiro
Title: Ueno Park and Shinobazu Pond, 1st edition
Date: 1934
Kasumu Yube--Shinobazu ikehata. A staked willow tree dangles its branches into the water, the yellow lights reflecting in the pond. We see the pagoda of Ueno Park rising above some cherry blossoms, so it must be early spring. There is a soft mistiness to this work that means it must be approaching dusk. The colors are always soft in an early impression, as here. With the Watanabe seal in the margin that indicates a first edition, as this seal was used between 1930 and 1942. Most extant prints of this design are post-war or posthumous.
