Title: Shibu Hot Spring, Nagano  Date: 1948

The village of Shubu in Nagano rests peacefully beneath a blanket of fresh snow. The building windows glow a soft yellow, a nice contrast with the purple hues of dusk upon the snow. This is from the first edition, with the date (Showa 23) shown at bottom left. The artist produced only about eight documented designs with the publisher Watanabe Kinjiro (a relative of Watanabe Shozaburo) between 1948 and 1950; the publisher did not affix a seal to these designs, and little is known about him in the west. There is also the title written in Romaji as part of the block, bottom margin.
