Hiroshige: Distant View of Kinryuzan Temple and Azuma Bridge (Sold)
Artist: Utagawa Hiroshige
Title: Distant View of Kinryûzan Temple and Azuma Bridge
Series: One Hundred Famous Views of Edo: Meisho Edo Hyakkei
Date: 1857, 7th month
A geisha drifts from our view on this spring day on the Sumida River. Cherry blossoms are blown from the roof of the boat, indicating that the geisha and her guests have just enjoyed the cherry blossoms near Mimeguri Shrine and are now departing for an evening of entertainment. We see Mount Fuji in the distance, framed slightly off-center by the architecture of the pleasure boat. To the right we see the five-story pagoda and huge main hall of Asakusa Kannon Temple (formerly known as Kinryûzan Sensoji), the most popular temple in Edo. This is an early impression, with woodgrain visible in the sky and in the water, and details that make it close to the printing of the deluxe edition.
Condition: Excellent impression and color. Very good condition. Barely visible center fold.
