Station number 11, Hakone. Station Hakone was known for its views and its steep terrain. Hiroshige has here chosen to depict the latter, as we see palanquin bearers taking the steep steps in a zigzag fashion. Two attendants carry long torches, as it is nighttime. Strong woodgrain is evident, indicating an early impression. Mica has been applied in the black areas.
Condition: Excellent impression and color; very good condition. Barely perceptible center fold.
