Hiroshige: Asakusa Ricefields and Torinomachi Festival (Sold)

Title: Asakusa Ricefields and Torinomachi Festival
Series: One Hundred Famous Views of Edo: Meisho Edo Hyakkei
Date: 11/1857
View from the window of a mid-ranking courtesan in the Yoshiwara pleasure district. The signs of the occupant are everywhere, although she is sensed rather than seen. We see tissues, hair pins, a mouth-rinsing bowl and towel--perhaps she has just said goodbye to a client. Her white cat watches with detachment the huge procession of people in the fields of the middle distance. The crowds are gathered for the Torinomachi Festival, the busiest day of the year in the Yoshiwara.
