“The Sea at Satta in Suruga Province” (Suruga Satta kaijô), from the series “Thirty-six Views of Mt Fuji”. This is considered the finest design in the series, as can be attested by the prevalence of posters of this design that are sold all over the internet. The wave definitely echoes Hokusai’s Great Wave, but Mt. Fuji anchors and balances the scene, making it much more peaceful. The plovers seem to fly up directly from the froth of the wave.
