Title: Takata Riding Grounds
Series: One Hundred Famous Views of Edo: Meisho Edo Hyakkei
Date: 1857, 2nd month

Tranquil scene enlivened by an unusual viewpoint--a Hiroshige specialty. We are at Takata riding grounds near an archery target, the actual archers being away in the middle distance taking aim.Other samurai retainers are galloping past each other on the gray track. A pink horizon warms the scene, and it is grounded by Mt. Fuji. There is some mica applied to the leather-faced target in this early edition. Takadanobaba is now a subway stop near Waseda University.
