Title: Young Girl Knitting for War Effort
Date: 1912
Color Woodblock print of a young Mexican woman atop a donkey, the two baskets next to her assumedly full of produce. A man in a sombrero walks beside them. It is raining, and we see a reflection of the scene in a lake at bottom. This print is also known as “Biblical flight into Egypt”, as this is the scene that was brought to mind for Hyde when she was in Mexico in 1911. In “The new wave” it describes this work as “a work of great delicacy that was printed in Japan in 1912” (page 42). Hyde traveled by train to Mexico City 1911 for a six-month sketching tour.
Condition: Very good impression, color and condition. Areas of light discoloration in margin at left.
