Title: Beauties Enjoying Fireflies at a Country Estate
Date: 1891
Charming scene of beauties at a country estate enjoying the experience of fireflies with their children. The seated beauty at center leans to her right to watch a girl waving her fan to catch fireflies. The girl’s kimono features morning glory vines. Behind them are two boys, also looking to catch the creatures; one has mounted a fan on a pole, and one uses a bamboo branch and is in hot pursuit. To the right is a beauty who hold her fan with her mouth so she can open the firefly cage she is holding. A young girl at right has trapped a firefly with her fan. The estate surrounding them has willow trees, a lake and a stone lantern as well as a lit lantern mounted on a wooden post. The air is filled with glowing orbs of light surrounding fireflies; the feeling is joyful and relaxing.
