Hasui: Snow at Sekiguchi (Sold)

  • Sold.

Artist: Kawase Hasui
Title: Snow at Sekiguchi
Date: 1932

Snow falls in heavy flakes on an old-fashioned scene of a waterwheel. In this unusual vantage point that is not traditionally picturesque, Hasui finds beauty in the ordinary scene of Japanese village life. This work is known in three color  versions; one mostly blue-grey, one mostly gray and one a purple-gray. This seems to be a version that is predominantly gray. It is important to look for the strong orange light in the very center of the composition, to make sure that the work has not suffered fading. This example is perfectly unfaded.
