Combining Hasui's strengths of strong atmosphere, unique perspective and nuanced emotion, we see a solitary figure with an umbrella enjoying the view from the famous Kiyomizudera in Kyoto. This work has been printed with the unique effect of additional blocks used as grey shadows around objects, to create the blurred effect that one would see when looking at a scene through a downpour of rain. Kiyomizudera means literally "Pure Water Temple", and it was founded in 780 on the site of the sacred Otowa Waterfall. Hasui has chosen a day of fine rain to portray this site that is associated with pure water.  The entire hall as well as this viewing platform were all constructed without the use of nails. Rare, pre-earthquake design in mint condition.
