Hasui 川瀬巴水: Mito, Izu 伊豆の三津 (Sold)
Artist: Kawase Hasui (1883-1957)
Title: Mito, Izu 伊豆の三津
Date: 1930
Mirroring a cone-shaped island, a semi-obscured Mt. Fuji rises rather coyly in the distance. In the foreground is a stone jetty with two small wooden watercraft tied up in its protected waters. This work was published in two different color schemes; this is the earlier, and darker version. The clouds have been printed with an interesting technique that Hasui’s printers do not often employ. This work was collected in the late 1940s by a member of the US Occupation forces and has never been framed. With the earliest Watanabe seal for this period, in use only between 1928 and 1932. First edition, and rather seldom seen in this condition and state. Today this view would be seen from the Izu Mito Sea Paradise Aquarium, with aquaculture nets floating in the bay and buildings lining the shore to the right.
Condition: Excellent impression, color and condition.
