Evening scene of two geisha passing a traditional Japanese establishment, the light from the entrance reflecting on their clothes as they cross in front of the welcoming yellow glow of the entrance. With the deep, velvety printing of the prewar era, we feel transported to the time and place of Soemoncho in the 1930s. This was the nightlife entertainment district in Osaka, where geisha might be hired to entertain guests at the many teahouses and restaurants. This work bears the Watanabe seal in the right margin that was used in the early 1940s, as well as the seal of the renowned printer Ono Gintaro.
