Hasui: Catalogue Raisonné by of Hasui by Narazaki Muneshige (Sold)
Artist: Kawase Hasui (1883-1957)
Title: Kawase Hasui Mokuhangashu
Date: 1979
Published in a limited edition in Japan in 1979, this oversized work is an important resource for the serious Hasui collector. Curious if a Hasui print has suffered some fading? Check this book to see the exact colors of mint examples from the collection of the publisher Watanabe Tadashi. This dealer has turned to this book countless times in the past 30 years to check for colors as well as seals, as there is no other reference book that I know of that has colors that are this accurate. (The Hotei/Brown catalogue raisonné, although useful in its own right, does not have colors that are true to life, and its illustrations are smaller.) Includes the original slipcover and cardboard clamshell box, as well as a translation of the Japanese titles. With original Hasui prints becoming ever more scarce, this is a wonderful way to admire all of his print designs, as the quality of the printing is astonishingly high. Text by the great Muneshige Narazaki.
