Tsubosaka temple, Yamato. We see two pilgrims arriving at the entrance gate, ascending from the green woods behind the temple. Tsubosaka-dera Temple is also known as Minami Hokkeji Temple in Nara, and was built around 717 AD, and is still known as a temple of healing. As Narazaki wrote: “This is the celebrated Tsubosaka Temple. Masking the evening moon, the forest is seen through and above the Romon [two-storeyed gate]. The gate is being visited by travellers who seem to have connections with the temple’s supposed miracles.”

With the round Watanabe seal that is appropriate for the first edition of this work, lower left corner.
