Title: Benkei Bridge, Akasaka 赤坂弁慶橋
Date: 1931

A woman and girl holding bright parasols draw the eye as they cross the wooden Benkei Bridge in Akasaka. It is spring, and behind them are trees in fresh spring green and cherry trees blooming in clouds of pink. The reflection on the water in the foreground and the cloud-filled sky in the background give this work many layers of interest, which was a Hasui specialty. Today Benkeibashi is made of concrete, and it connects Akasaka with Koicho, spanning Benkeibori Moat. With the prewar Watanabe seal lower left that was in use between 1935 and 1941.
