View of a sunset-pink-tinged Mt Fuji garlanded by clouds as seen from the the shores of Lake Ashinoko, a caldera lake that formed about 3000 years ago after the eruption of Mount Hakone. This view is now the symbol of Hakone, and the area remains quite scenic and undeveloped. This is one of a set of six works commissioned by the Iwasaki Family, founders of Mitsubishi, in 1935. The Kenan villa was built in 1911 for Baron Iwasaki Koyata, nephew of Mitsubishi company founder Iwasaki Yataro. This is an example of the Watanabe-pubished Hasui designs that bear the round seal in the 1930s in the first edition (as here). First (and only) edition.
