Artist: Kawase Hasui
Title: Hataori, Shiobara
Date: 1946

A Japanese village is hunkered down against an evening snowstorm. An excellent example of a postwar snowscape, created without any outline keyblock, as pioneered by Kiyochika. Shiobara was one of Hasui’s favorite places, and he went to reside there to escape Tokyo during the war. There are two color palettes known for this design: the deep blue seems to be the rarer version. The yellow in the windows retain their strong yellow pigment, indicating that no fading has occurred to this work.

Condition: Excellent impression, color and condition. Barely discernible fold diagonal to right upper corner.
