Narazaki says it best: ‘This is a superb composition of the unusually shaped rock at Zaimoku Isand, together with the image of a sailboat, the silhouettes of the distant islands and clouds’. Hasui states that the time is a late autumn afternoon. This is an early edition, masterfully printed.

Matsushima is one of the celebrated “Three Views in Japan”.
