Hasui 川瀬 巴水: Early Autumn in Urayasu 初秋の浦安 (Sold)

  • Sold.

Artist: Kawase Hasui 川瀬 巴水
Title: Early Autumn in Urayasu 初秋の浦安
Date: 1931, October

A sailboat glides along a glassy river in Urayasu, probably the Edogawa. In the foreground are still-green grasses that line the water’s edge. Urayasu was a fishing village outside of Tokyo before modern industrialization filled it with concrete and highrises, including the modern spectacle of Tokyo Disney. Here it is peaceful and quiet, with traditional homes and a non-concrete riverbank lined with plants. The different types of clouds and the bright colors of the sky have been realized with great attention to detail. Completely unfaded. With the earliest seal for this design, in use between 1928-1932.

Condition: Excellent impression, color and condition. Tiny original mounting remnants in upper corners on back; otherwise mint.
