Title: Two Gallinules with Iris  Date: C.1920s-30s

Two gallinules wade gracefully in shallow water, a large purple iris blooming above them. Their forms are printed in shades of black and grey, with the subtle bokashi skillfully giving them their plump, round shapes. They seem to fix the viewer with their gazes. Works like these that are signed Shoson were published by Watanabe Shôzaburo in the early Shôwa period. The soft glow of the pink-orange background indicates an unfaded example.
