  • Sold.

Artist: Junichiro Sekino 関野 準一郎 (1914-1988)

Title: NHK Museum of Broadcasting, Atagoyama 放送博物館  Date: 1955

Two transmission towers flank a stately white western style building on the hills of Atagoyama. This is formerly the Tokyo Broadcasting station, known as the “birth place of Japanese Broadcasting”. The NHK Broadcasting Center began operating in 1925. At this site the NHK Museum of Broadcast opened in 1956 as the first museum of its kind in Japan. The museum is still open, but the current building does not seem to look much like this design, which actually was soft yellow in color. The scale model of this design can be seen in the current museum, which has more of a shoebox shape. This is one of only two Sekino prints that was published by Watanabe Shôzaburo, and in the 1962 catalog of the publisher it is noted that it was sold out. Includes the original reddish Watanabe presentation folder with the title of the work printed on a green label on the outside. Dated and titled in the right margin “Atagoyama” and “One-nine-five-five”. Scarce, especially with the Watanabe seal at lower left.

Condition: Excellent impression, color and condition. Mint.

Dimensions: 40.1 x 27.5  cm
Signed: Signed Sekino in the block, lower right, in Romaji cursive.
