Kunisada: Two Kabuki Actors against a Textured Wooden Background; Wakanaya uchi Wakakusa; Ukiyo Inosuke

We see two Kabuki actors paired up against a  backdrop of dramatically textured wooden boards. They are playing Wakakusa of Wakanaya  (right) and Ukiyo Inosuke (left). They seem to be able to see each other through the separation of the image.  The wooden texture was obtained by soaking a wooden board and brushing it with a stiff brush to raise the natural woodgrain.
