Kusunoki Masatsura, the son of Kusunoki Masashige is shown under a literal rain of arrows as he continues his father’s struggle against the Ashikaga forces. There are two triptychs of this name with similar compositions that were published in 1857; they can be put together to form a 6-sheet composition. The warrior at left is about to thrust his sword into the throat of his supine opponent. The warrior at right holds a dead man by the hair, probably about to behead him. The are all advancing despite their wounds and the hail of arrows.
