Title: Fireflies

Fireflies glow against a deep black summer sky, above, and a blue-grey stream, below. Only their golden glow can be seen as some perch on the far sides of some of the  reeds. Kôgyo was the adopted son of the great Meiji artist Yoshitoshi. He excelled at pictures of Noh drama and bird-and-flower prints. This work was done in a painterly style, yet used the medium of the woodblock print very effectively.
