The kabuki actor Seki Sanjûrô II. He is playing a samurai, who is seen here holding an umbrella with one hand and lifting his robes with the other, perhaps against the pouring rain. His outer kimono is black with a hatch-shaped crest. According to kabuki21, this actor starred in Chikamatsu’s drama “Komochi Yamanba” in 1810, staged for the first time in Edo at the Nakamuraza theater.

Condition: Very good impression, color and condition. Areas of small repaired wormage, mostly near bottom. Untrimmed and unbacked.
