In the heat of midsummer, an extremely Hiroshige perspective from the top of the Drum-Bird (Kankodori) float of Odemna-cho. We catch the corner of the rooster perched atop the ceremonial “drum of admonition” at the top of the float, and glimpse the hats of the procession attendees from above. “Sanno Festival Procession at Kojimachi 1-chome” (Kojimachi-itchome Sanno matsuri nerikomi). The entire procession consisted of more than fifty large floats, some more than 30 feet high and lavishily decorated. We see Benkei Moat on the side of Edo Castle, from where the procession will pass under the personal review of the shogun at Inui Gate.
