Title:  Mount Fuji, Seen from Shoji

Mount Fuji’s unmistakable peak rises above the surrounding plains, here seen from Shoji from a vantage point above some pine trees. We can feel the influence that Japanese printmakers had on the art of Lewis. Lewis collected some of Hasui’s early prints, and that influence can be seen in the way that the artist created depth with layers of scenery. Pencil drawing with white highlights on blue-grey paper. Unsigned, circular stamp on verso "Collection Lucille Deming Lewis" and numbered "LDL-270." The stamp and number were added in 1962 when Paul McCarron at Kennedy Galleries did the inventory for the Martin Lewis estate. Lucille was Martin Lewis' wife. Provenance: Estate of the artist.
