A heron stands upon the sturdy branch of a large willow and turns its sharp gaze towards the upper branches. It is windy, and the willow boughs are in motion from the breeze. Beautifully printed; the sky behind the white bird is a yellow-orange, with grey approaching from beneath and above. Sozan was a specialist in kacho-e, bird-and-flower pictures. Twenty-eight of his works are listed in the 1936 Watanabe catalog.
