We see sheets of rain bent by gusts of wind as the elements overtake three people at at Yamabushidani, a place named for yamabushi,  mountain ascetics. One traveler faces the wind, grabbing hold of his hat. A second man is about to cross him on the path, and is chasing his own traveling hat, which has been caught by the wind and seems to the viewer to be a lost cause. A boatman is seen middle distance, rather calmly poling his log raft on the Tsuyama River past the edifice known as Jizo Rock. The slicing graphic elements that Hiroshige has used to convey the wind and rain make this work feel very much ahead of its time. This is one of the most famous works in this series.
