Shiragiku maru. Poem by Oshikôchi no Mitsune. Number 29. The young and androgynously attired Shiragakimaru holds aloft a monument to a lost temple of Enoshima, a skull held in his teeth. There is a supernatural flame next to him, letting the viewer know that something unearthly is going on. Shiragi kumaro is the subject of a play in which he and his male lover, the temple priest Jikyu, make a lover’s pact to commit suicide. This story is alluded to in this design.
