Koson 小原古邨 : Wading Egret with Reeds (Sold)

  • Sold.

Artist: Ohara Koson (1877-1945)
Title: Wading Egret with Reeds
Date: ca 1920s-30s

A little egret (Egretta garzetta) walks in a shallow lake, circles eddying from its footsteps. This edition was printed between 1921 and 1936, as evidenced by the “Made in Japan” seal, verso. This is a later version of the original Daikokuya edition, which would have been printed in the very early 20th century, prior to 1912. It is certainly not one of the late Adachi editions from after the war. Daikokuya is known to have re-published popular prints, but the mists of time (and the lack of dates and publishers marks) have obscured all definitive research efforts on who exactly published which Koson designs and exactly when. This work is beautifully printed and was definitely created before WWII.

Condition: Very good impression, color and condition.
Dimensions: 26.2 x 26.7 cm
