Title: Small print of Japan's Golden Pavilion in Snow
Date: c. mid 20th C
Size: 23 x 7.4 cm

Woodblock print showing what seems to be Japan’s famous Golden Pavilion (Kinkakuji) in Kyoto. This structure burned down in 1950 and was rebuilt in 1955; perhaps this commemorates the rebuilding or is simply a classic Japanese scene that Obata made for friends as a holiday greeting or as a commission for a friend. Obata designed a number of these smaller prints over the years. This design is quite scarce.

Condition: Excellent impression, color and condition.
Signature: Chiura Obata (in block)
