From left, the actors Iwai Kumesaburo III as Koshiji; Ichikawa Ebizo V as Senso Dojin and Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as Jiraiya. From the play "Jiraiya goketsu monogatari." Censor's seals of Fuku, Muramatsu. Koshiji sits on the floor near a brazier, calmly reading while pointing a flaming matchlock gun towards Jiraiya, who brandishes a sword at right. Between them is Senso Dojin, the sorcerer who rescued Jiraiya and his sister and trained them in magic. Here he floats above the floor, his face in concentration and his hands held in a mudra of magical power.
