Hirano Hakuho 平野白峰: After the Bath (SOLD)
Artist: Hirano Hakuhō
Title: After the Bath
A seated nude beauty, skin pink from the heat of the bath, towels dry her shoulder. Her clothing is heaped behind her, providing a bold contrast of color and pattern to her bare skin. The background features the baren-sujizuri technique that shows the swirling marks of the baren. This design was listed in the Watanabe sale catalogues of 1932 and 1936 with the title "After the Bath"--in both catalogues the print is marked "Sold out". With the Watanabe seal used between 1928 and 1932 in the left margin (Hanmoto Watanabe hangaten). This is an early edition from outside of the numbered edition of 100, with the “Gift” (shin-tei) seal used by Watanabe, verso. Watanabe Shoichiro notes that his grandfather used this seal for excellent examples of certain works that he would then present as personal gifts. Perfectly printed and in mint condition.
Condition: Excellent impression, color and condition.
