Artist: Kishio Koizumi (1893-1945)
Title: Rainy Season in Senzoku Pond    Date: 1937

Charming view from the boathouse overlooking Senzoku Pond, one of the largest and most popular ponds in metropolitan Tokyo, beloved by the Japanese for its cherry blossoms and scenic beauty for centuries. A man in a bowler hat and a woman in kimono enjoy drinks as they watch boaters ply the pond in a light drizzle. This work is dated seventh month (July), so we may presume it is summer. The strong architectural elements add appeal.

Koizumi Kishio  self-published 100 designs in this very interesting series, although it took nine years to complete after the first work was published in 1928.  In general the designs are very strong, and have a fresh perspective that is distinctive to this series. These works were sold by subscription club, which the artist declared to be limited to 50 members. Scarce. This is number 94 in the series.
