Ôkubo Hikozaemon Protects the Hidden Shögun

“War Chronicles of Osaka”. Okubo Hikozaemon protects the hidden Tokugawa shogun from the spear of Gorô Matabei in a moonlit forest. Gorô Matabei carries a baby on his back. A man lies bleeding profusely on the ground behind him. Overhead a crescent moon shines. Matabei’s face as been portrayed in a challenging angle, and we catch the baby’s innocence from the glimpse of his face. There is blindprinting in the white and urushi-e (lacquer-imitating) effects on the armor.
