Hama-chô Riverbank
Date: 1925
Hamachôgashi. Dawn breaks along the riverbank, the sky a riot of colors. This work was produced in conjunction with “Evening Cool” by Ito Shinsui, and the series marks the first time that Hasui worked with a publisher other than Watanabe. This print has had the title and date on left margin inserted by the publisher at the time of production. They ingeniously “knitted” the paper slip into the margin for reasons that are lost to time. This is a rare design, with very strong colors.
